Memphis style door for my Memphis classroom

robert ries November 11, 2024

A few months ago I decided to add some much needed flair to my classroom door here in Memphis. Being a child of the 80’s and 90’s, I’ve always loved the playful look of the Memphis design style. So I got to work priming my old rusty door, adding a misty base coat, and then layering on various shapes with stencils. The final touch was a black and white striped border for the door frame and voila! My Memphis door now had some Memphis style.

Upon seeing it for the first time, a kindergartener asked me, “Mr. Ries, is it your birthday?” When I told him no, he then said, “Then why does your door look like that?!” I guess everyday can be my birthday now that my classroom door has this new fun look.
